Cooking Up Beauty Secrets

Did you know that some of the best beauty secrets come from ingredients right in your own kitchen? That’s right — you don’t have to break the bank to look and feel fabulous. Find out how you can cook up beauty with goodies at home!

Licorice and Petroleum Jelly for Feet
One of Tamar’s favorite at-home beauty remedies for dry feet is a mixture of licorice and petroleum jelly. “Just take the licorice sticks and grind them up,” she shares. “Next, I mix the ground-up licorice with 1/2 teaspoon of petroleum jelly, and I rub it on my feet to remove calluses and corns. The licorice has estrogen-like substances that soften the hard skin.”

Vinegar and Baking Soda for Teeth
There’s nothing like having pearly whites, and to keep her smile glowing, Loni likes to use vinegar and baking soda. “First, I take the baking soda, dump a little in a bowl and dip my wet toothbrush in it,” she says. “Next, I pour a little of the white vinegar on top of the toothbrush and then I brush my teeth like I would normally do with regular toothpaste.” Do this three times a week and Loni says you’ll be good to go!

Bananas for Shaving
Bananas never last long, but before you throw them out, Tamera has another great use for them! “Shave your legs with those bananas,” she says. “Mash the bananas up and add to a bowl with water. Next, you’re going to apply the mixture to your legs and shave just like you would if you were using shaving cream.”

Ketchup to Rejuvenate Hair Color
If you like to look cute at the pool like Adrienne, then a swimming cap is out of the question. Good thing she has a cool trick to help your hair color stay intact after a dip. “Sometimes my hair picks up a green tint from all the chlorine,” she shares. “There’s a simple way to get your color back with the help of ketchup. The acid in ketchup counteracts the chemicals in chlorine. All you have to do is squeeze some ketchup in a bowl, apply it to your hair, let it sit for 20 minutes and then rinse off and shampoo as usual.”

Tomatoes and Honey for Glowing Skin
Save your money on self-tanners and bronzers, because you can get the same glow at home with tomatoes and honey! “I have to warn you, it might not look the prettiest, but it works,” Jeannie says. “First, I slush up some tomatoes, and then mix that with some honey. After everything is combined, I take the mixture and apply it to my face.” Keep the mixture on for 15 minutes, and when you’re done, you’ll have a glowing, fresh face for the entire day.
