Pregnant Meghan Markle was the belle of the ball at the British Fashion Awards on Monday night.
The former Suits star turned royal looked gorgeous in a black, one-shoulder gown as she awarded Clare Waight Keller, the designer behind her Givenchy wedding dress, with the British Women's Wear Designer of The Year award.
Meghan’s surprise appearance didn’t sit well with some royal critics, who pointed out she broke protocol by wearing dark nail polish and by posing for a Boomerang.
Our royal correspondent Loni said Meghan is a “modern Duchess,” and "if the Queen really didn’t like what her new granddaughter-in-law was doing, she would put her foot down"
“They said she went out of protocol because she wore dark nail polish,” Loni explained while mentioning the Queen prefers the royals to wear Essie’s light pink Ballet Slipper nail polish.
Defending the Duchess, Loni said she thinks Meghan, who was pictured cradling her growing baby bump at the event, only opted for dark polish because it went with her choice of dress, and pointed out Princess Eugenie has also worn dark nail polish.
“It’s okay to match your stuff, so I don’t think that’s a big thing,” the host shared.
Meghan also broke another royal rule by posing for a Boomerang in a photo booth with the designer and actress Rosamund Pike.
By this morning, it had mysteriously disappeared from the British Fashion Council site.
Loni continued, “What I say is she’s a modern-day Duchess. This is the first social media Duchess that we’ve had, so of course she’s going to do things on social media.”
While Loni admitted she totally understands that some people don’t like to break with tradition, she said it’s not the Queen who is complaining.
“I don’t think that the Queen has any problem with what Meghan is doing. I think those are just haters.”
Real fam, should Meghan be sticking to the royal rules?
