Will Idris Elba Play 'James Bond'? Here’s What He Recently Said About the Role

The speculation over whether Idris Elba will be the next James Bond continues… and Elba has something to say about it.

In an interview with the Daily Mail's Event, the actor touched on rumors that he’ll play the iconic spy, and it sounds like he might not be fully down with taking on the role. Allow him to explain.

Elba said, “Bond is one of the biggest franchises in the world, and for that reason, whoever ends up playing it, lives it. You’re THAT character, and known as that character for many, many years. I’m creating characters now that can still live alongside Idris. Not ones that take over me and solely define me.”

Loni’s boo has a point. Playing such a legendary part in a long-running franchise is a major career commitment.

This isn’t the first time Elba has talked Bond. He remarked last year that he would be interested in seeing the character as a woman, and some of the “The Real” hosts responded in agreement.

Jeannie asked, “How ready are you guys to see a female James Bond?”

Loni dropped Serena Williams' name as a possible candidate for the gig, Jeannie mentioned Zoe Saldana, and Tam shouted out Angela Bassett.

Who would you want to see as James Bond?
