Billy Ray Cyrus Steps In For Lil Nas X’s ‘Old Town Road’ Remix

Lil Nas X just got a country boost from one of the genre’s biggest hitmakers.

The rapper’s popular track “Old Town Road” made headlines last month when it was removed from Billboard’s Hot Country Road charts because it “does not currently merit inclusion on Billboard’s country charts.”

Per Rolling Stone, Billboard stated, “When determining genres, a few factors are examined, but first and foremost is musical composition. While ‘Old Town Road’ incorporates references to country and cowboy imagery, it does not embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current version.”

“Achy Breaky Heart” country crooning legend Billy Ray Cyrus and other artists took notice. Billy Ray took to Instagram to share his support for Lil Nas X, writing, “@lilnasx Been watching everything going on with OTR. When I got thrown off the charts, Waylon Jennings said to me “Take this as a compliment” means you’re doing something great! Only Outlaws are outlawed. Welcome to the club!”

Cut to Thursday night, and the musical duo can officially call themselves collaborators! “Old Town Road… the remix out now!” Both Billy Ray and Lil Nas X shared a behind-the-scenes video featuring Billy Ray strumming on his guitar while working on "Old Town Road’s" remix. Does Lil Nas X have an updated, chart-topping hit on his hands?
