Rihanna is making groundbreaking moves! The singer and beauty mogul is partnering with French luxury goods conglomerate LVMH to create a new luxury fashion brand called Fenty.
LVMH is behind other iconic brands such as Givenchy, Dior and Louis Vuitton, so Rihanna is in esteemed company. She’ll become the first woman of color to helm a brand under LVMH, and the first woman ever to create an original brand with the famed fashion group.
LVMH CEO and Chairman Bernard Arnault said in a statement, “Everybody knows Rihanna as a wonderful singer, but through our partnership at Fenty Beauty, I discovered a true entrepreneur, a real CEO, and a terrific leader. She naturally finds her full place within LVMH. To support Rihanna to start up the Fenty Maison, we have built a talented and multicultural team supported by the Group resources. I am proud that LVMH is leading this venture and wish it will be a great success.”
Rihanna shared on Instagram Friday after the news broke, “big day for the culture. thank you Mr.Arnault for believing in this little girl from the left side of an island, and for giving me the opportunity to grow with you at @LVMH. This is proof that nothing is impossible. Glory be to God.”
Fenty’s inaugural collection of ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories will reportedly debut in a Paris show later in May.
Rihanna was unfortunately absent at this year’s fashion event of the year, Monday’s Met Gala, much to the dismay of fashion fans, but maybe next year she’ll show up wearing Fenty!
