Jay-Z Is Officially a Billionaire

Jay-Z just nabbed the title of the world’s first hip-hop artist billionaire, according to Forbes. The magazine's new cover story says the rapper and mogul has “accumulated a fortune that conservatively totals $1 billion.”

In order to estimate Jay-Z’s worth, Forbes looked at the Grammy winner’s various investments, assets and businesses under his empire, including companies like Roc Nation and Tidal. His art collection alone is reportedly worth an estimated $70 million.

Jay-Z joins the billionaire’s circle of entertainers, including Michael Jordan, Oprah Winfrey, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. Thanks to her beauty line, Kylie Jenner has also reached the billion mark.

Jay’s wife Beyoncé is reportedly worth approximately $355 million, according to a list published last year. A list of the richest hip-hop stars from 2017 lists Diddy not far behind Jay at around $820 million.

Swizz Beatz, who has produced Jay-Z tracks, talked about his collaborator and friend’s impact, saying, “It’s bigger than hip-hop … it’s the blueprint for our culture. A guy that looks like us, sounds like us, loves us, made it to something that we always felt that was above us.”
