Kim Kardashian to Change the Name of Her Shapewear Line Following Backlash

Kim Kardashian West has had a change of heart... and a change of name regarding her upcoming Solutionwear brand (her answer to shapewear) after it received criticism online. Kim announced her Kimono collection last week, and the line’s name was immediately drew criticism for being culturally insensitive, as Kimono references a traditional Japanese garment.

Kim stood by the name in a statement to The New York Times on Friday, explaining that she has “deep respect for the significance of the kimono in Japanese culture” and she has “no plans to design or release any garments that would in any way resemble or dishonor the traditional garment.” Now she’s altering her tune on the matter, confirming that the collection will be released under an alternate name.

On Monday morning, Kim took to social media to reveal that she’s considering a new name for her Solutionwear. Alongside a picture of herself in what appears to be one of the pieces from the line, Kim wrote, “Being an entrepreneur and my own boss has been one of the most rewarding challenges I’ve been blessed with in my life. What’s made it possible for me after all of these years has been the direct line of communication with my fans and the public. I am always listening, learning and growing - I so appreciate the passion and varied perspectives that people bring to me.”

She went onto say talk about the mission behind her products and to thank her fans for their “understanding,” saying, “When I announced the name of my shapewear line, I did so with the best intentions in mind. My brands and products are built with inclusivity and diversity at their core and after careful thought and consideration, I will be launching my Solutionwear brand under a new name. I will be in touch soon. Thank you for your understanding and support always.”
