Ever since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced her pregnancy last year, there's been rampant speculation on who would be the child’s godparents. Now that their son Archie is 2 months old and his christening date is near, the world is wondering who will be given the roles.
According to the Palace’s statement on July 3, that news will remain under wraps for now. The announcement said, "Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor will be christened in a small private ceremony by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle on Saturday, July 6th. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex look forward to sharing some images taken on the day by photographer Chris Allerton. The godparents, in keeping with their wishes, will remain private."
So, who is in contention for the job? Meghan's famous friend Serena Williams is one rumored candidate, as is her stylist pal Jessica Mulroney. Amal and George Clooney have also been in the gossip mix, but he told “Extra” in May, “Everybody loves their rumors. It's not true. You don't want me to be a godparent of anybody. I'm barely a parent at this point. It’s so hard. It's frightening.”
