Kanye West just landed the third spot on the Forbes list of 100 highest-paid entertainers, thanks to his Yeezy sneaker and fashion empire. Now he’s taking on a new project: low income housing.
Forbes' profile of the rapper and entrepreneur reveals he’s working on creating Star Wars-inspired affordable shelters in the California woods.
Writer Zack O’Malley Greenburg toured the prefabricated structures for his piece, in which he reveals the “physical prototypes are oblong and dozens of feet tall.” The article says they “could be used as living spaces for the homeless,” and that they’re “inspired by Luke Skywalker’s childhood home.”

Kanye on the cover of Forbes! So incredibly proud of my husband! I watch everyday how hard he works and how much of his heart and soul he puts into his business, every idea and product that he creates. It’s of no surprise to anyone who works with or is close to Kanye that he has been able to turn millions of dollars in debt into a billion dollar empire in only 4 years - 100% on his own terms, while owning 100% of his business. He inspires me every single day and I’m so happy that he is finally getting the recognition and credit that he deserves.
Kanye West’s Star Wars fandom should come as no surprise to those who have been following the musician throughout his career. He has referred to the iconic franchise in his songs and in a memorable sketch for the Comedy Central show “Alligator Boots.” Yes, that’s Kim (before she became a West) dressed as Princess Leia.
Now he’s merging the films’ architectural influence with his own design and philanthropic aspirations.
we’re starting a Yeezy architecture arm called Yeezy home. We’re looking for architects and industrial designers who want to make the world better— ye (@kanyewest) May 6, 2018
Kim Kardashian West told Forbes that the unique home she shares with Kanye was completely his vision. “The house was all him. I’ve never seen anyone that pays such attention to detail.”
