Beyoncé Premieres Stunning New ‘Spirit’ Video

If you can’t wait until Friday to hear Beyoncé voice Nala in the highly-anticipated “Lion King” adaptation, have we got a treat for you. The 23-time Grammy winner (and newly-minted Emmy nominee) just dropped the video for her single “Spirit,” a new track from an album that accompanies the film, and it surely doesn’t disappoint.

The video not only features clips from the movie, Bey is seen in a variety of vibrant ensembles in some sweeping, jaw-dropping locales, including a waterfall and a rock-filled desert. The inspiring ballad also gets a visual boost from moving choreography performed by both her and her backup dancers. Oh — how could we forget? — Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy has a moment as well!

If you don’t recall the track “Spirit” from the 1994 original “Lion King,” you’re paying attention. The new song is a part of the Bey-produced “The Lion King: The Gift,” which is not the main soundtrack to the film -- but includes curated music that serves as a “love letter to Africa.”

Beyoncé explained to ABC News, "I wanted it to be authentic to what is beautiful about the music in Africa.” She added, “A lot of the drums, the chants, all of these incredible new sounds mixed with some of the producers from America, we kind of created our own genre.”
