“Grown-ish” star Yara Shahidi is rocking a natural look for Harper’s Bazaar’s “Real Beauty” August issue. The actress and activist poses untouched in the photos, and discusses her approach to style with the mag.
Yara explains, “By not showing skin, I’m making a statement.” The trend-forward 19-year-old seems to have a propensity to opt for feel-good fashion. She adds, “My clothes need to have movement. For me, fashion is all about joy.”
In addition to performing and spearheading voting initiatives like Eighteen x 18, Yara has teamed up with beauty brands like Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, that she feels promote inclusivity. In a clip promoting the line, she says, “True beauty is being unique, experimenting, exploring, sometimes unsettling. True beauty is expansive, is happiness. True beauty is my unibrow!”
Yara took to Instagram to share a little behind-the-scenes video from her Harper’s shoot, where she can be seen dancing in between poses in an Oscar de la Renta gown.
“Unretouched and Undefined” she captioned another shot from the spread.
Serena Williams also participated in unretouched photos for the magazine, where she penned an personal essay about her controversial match at last year’s U.S. Open.
