Forever 21 Apologizes For Sending Diet Bars With Online Orders

Forever 21 was put on blast Tuesday when it was revealed that they were shipping diet bar samples with their customers’ online packages. Many shoppers, who ordered plus-sized products, called out the brand for sending a negative, “fat-shaming” message. After the news went viral, Forever 21 clarified their intent with the “freebies,” explaining the Atkins gifts were meant as a marketing promotion. Other customers noted that they received the bars with their non plus-size orders, so plus-size customers did not appear to be singled out through the test e-commerce initiative.

Forever 21 said in a statement, “From time to time, Forever 21 surprises our customers with free test products from third parties in their e-commerce orders. The freebie items in question were included in all online orders, across all sizes and categories, for a limited time and have since been removed. This was an oversight on our part and we sincerely apologize for any offense this may have caused to our customers, as this was not our intention in any way."

Atkins additionally issued a statement, saying in part that, “Today’s Atkins is focused on a lifestyle nutritional approach where everyone can benefit from overall health and wellbeing.”

What do you think of this, Real fam? Did customers overreact or was Forever 21 right to remove the bars?
