Lizzo is one of 2019’s breakout artists. While she’s been on the music scene for a while, she didn’t rise to superstardom right away. Her hit “Truth Hurts” is a hit now, but the track was released back in 2017.
Lizzo spoke to People about how she felt upon dropping the single, which didn’t garner the attention she hoped for at the time. She admitted, “The day I released ‘Truth Hurts’ was probably one of the darkest days I’ve had ever in my career. I remember thinking, ‘If I quit music now, nobody would notice. This is my best song ever, and nobody cares. I was like, ‘F*** it, I’m done.’ And a lot of people rallied; my producer, my publicist and my family, they were like, ‘Just keep going because this is the darkest before the dawn.'”
It’s a good day the rapper, singer and flautist continued to follow her passion. The song is a chart-topper since having a standout moment in the Netflix flick “Someone Great.” Lizzo said of its success, “Now the song that made me want to quit is the song that everyone’s falling in love with me for, which is such a testament to journeys: Your darkest day turns into your brightest triumph.”
In addition to opening up about her professional journey, Lizzo is also getting real about her personal style, telling “The Hollywood Reporter” she “wears whatever she wants.” She told the publication, You should essentially, by the end of your self-love journey, be completely in love with who you are with no makeup, no extra hair, no styling, no corsetry."
