The Duke and Duchess of Sussex use their official Instagram handle @RoyalSussex to highlight charitable organizations that they support and share their lives with the world, but on Friday, August 9, the account used words, instead of images, to inspire its followers.
There was no photo on the account’s latest post, but there was a powerful message from Diana, Princess of Wales, Prince Harry’s late mother who passed away in 1997 at the age of 36.
@Sussex Royal’s caption stated, “Words have the power to inspire, which is why we’re happy to share some of our favourite quotes. From members of the public to public figures, from teachers and students to young leaders, we begin with a quote from Diana, Princess of Wales.”
The touching quote read, “Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.”
Diana, also known as “The People’s Princess,” was a humanitarian whose impactful philanthropic legacy lives on. She used her platform for positive change, championing for AIDS awareness, working with charities that battled homelessness, and leading anti-landmine efforts, in addition to advocating for many other causes. Her sons have made it a mission to follow in her footsteps.
Prince Harry said in 2016, “We will do everything we can to make sure that she's never forgotten and carry on all the special gifts, as such, that she had and that she portrayed while she was alive.”
Following Meghan and Harry’s engagement, Meghan spoke about the significant of Diana in their lives and wedding. Meghan’s ring even features two smaller stones from Diana’s jewelry collection. She revealed to the BBC, ”I think everything about Harry’s thoughtfulness and the inclusion of [Princess Diana’s stones] and obviously not being able to meet his mom, it’s so important to me to know that she’s a part of this with us.”
