Liam Hemsworth Breaks His Silence on Miley Split

After tying the knot last December, high-profile couple Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth announced over the weekend that they were separating. The pair got together in 2009 after meeting on “The Last Song,” broke up in 2013 following their first engagement, and reunited in 2015 before getting engaged for a second time. According to Miley’s rep, the pair “have decided this is what's best while they both focus on themselves and careers.”

Miley made more headlines almost immediately following news breaking when she was spotted on vacation in Italy with Brody Jenner’s ex, “Hills” star Kaitlynn Carter. The two were seen making out, sparking relationship rumors between the two of them.

After The Daily Mail Australia reported Liam commented, "You don't understand what it's like. I don't want to talk about it, mate” when asked about the separation, Liam set the record straight about the situation via his own social media account.

Liam shared a photo of a beach on Monday with this message: “Hi all. Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward.”

He went on to note that he would not be speaking out about the separation with any news outlets. “This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love.”

Miley has been posting her own post-split Instagrams, including one over the weekend offering up musings about change. “Don’t fight evolution, because you will never win,” she wrote.

Miley and Liam reportedly became close with Brody Jenner and Kaitlynn Carter (Miley’s alleged makeout partner), who announced their own breakup recently. When Brody and fellow “Hills” co-star Brandon Thomas Lee poked fun at Miley and Kaitlynn’s “scandal” in the comments on Brody’s Instagram, Miley clapped back by chiming in, “@Brodyjenner go take a nap in your truck and cool off #HotGirlSummer.”
