Dave Chappelle Hosts Star-Studded Benefit Concert in Dayton, Ohio

Comedian Dave Chappelle hosted a free benefit concert in Dayton, Ohio, on Sunday night to honor the victims of the city’s recent mass shooting. The tragedy on August 4 in the Oregon Historic District left 10 people dead and 27 injured.

Chappelle’s event, called Gem City Shine, featured artists like Chance the Rapper, Teyana Taylor and Talib Kweli. Stevie Wonder headlined the show, which drew an estimated crowd of 20,000. Kanye West held his Sunday Service in Dayton’s RiverScape Metro Park earlier in the day, an event Chappelle also attended.

Chappelle, who lives in the neighboring area of Yellow Springs, Ohio, addressed the audience from the stage, saying, “Today we’re going to show the world that nothing will get us down,” CNN reported. Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley proclaimed it “Dave Chappelle Day.”

Kanye West’s wife Kim Kardashian tweeted a link to the Sunday Service, “In support of the victims and survivors of the Dayton mass shooting.”

Rapper Talib Kweli shared a photo from the event with comedian Michael Che, noting, “This guy got pen skills... one love to Dayton!”
