Prince Harry is discussing his use of private jets, as well as promoting a new initiative that encourages eco-friendly travel.
The Duke of Sussex and wife Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, were hit with criticism last month after the pair and their son Archie flew to Ibiza, as well as Elton John’s home in France, on a private jet. Speaking in Amsterdam on Tuesday, Prince Harry broke his silence on the controversy while launching Travalyst, a sustainable tourism initiative.
“We can all do better and while no one is perfect, we all have a responsibility for our own individual impact,” he remarked in his speech. “The question is what we do to balance it out.”
He also discussed his own travel needs, explaining why private travel is often a “unique circumstance” for his family. Prince Harry noted, “I came here by commercial. I spend 99 percent of my life traveling the world by commercial. Occasionally, there needs to be an opportunity based on a unique circumstance to ensure that my family are safe and it’s genuinely as simple as that.”
The @SussexRoyal Instagram account further detailed Travalyst’s mission, stating, “We believe in the power and importance of travel. We also have a shared responsibility to our planet and to each other.”
