Nicki Minaj Apologizes for ‘Abrupt’ Retirement Announcement

Hot girl summer is coming to a close, and apparently so is a successful musical chapter in Nicki Minaj’s life. The Grammy-nominated rapper just revealed she’s making a professional change — she’s retiring from music to have a family.

Minaj is gearing up to wed her man Kenneth Petty — they’ve already gotten their marriage license — and now she’s getting ready to prioritize her personal life.

She shocked her fans and the industry by tweeting on Thursday, “I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, X in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. Love you for LIFE.”

The post has since been deleted. Nicki’s unexpected statement was met with disappointment from her loyal fans, prompting one of the Barbz to ask her to address the declaration. Nicki obliged with a direct twitter response later that day.

She clarified, “I’m still right here. Still madly in love with you guys & you know that. In hindsight, this should’ve been a Queen Radio discussion & it will be. I promise u guys will be happy. No guests, just us talking about everything. The tweet was abrupt & insensitive, I apologize babe.”

Nicki has been planning to release new music soon. She collaborated with Megan Thee Stallion on “Hot Girl Summer” and hinted that her next album is on the horizon. But first, a wedding!

She dished on Queen Radio last month, “I have to work on my album and I have a lot to focus on that I don’t want to do the big wedding now. We’ll do the big wedding later. I’ll be married before my album comes out, but will have my wedding after the album comes out. Before the 90 days is over, yes, I will be married. I’m very happy about that because my baby makes me so happy.”
