Are you not feeling the “grandma” title? Would you prefer another nickname denoting your grandparent status? The ladies of “The Real” talked about their feelings on the term and whether they’re fans of a modern take on the alias: “Glam-ma.”
“I can be a glam-ma and still be called a grandma. I wouldn’t mind it,” Tamera remarked.
“My mom is a grandma and I think she’s fly!” Adrienne added. She also noted that her husband Israel “takes pride” in being a grandfather. She shared, “His grandson calls him ‘Pops’ and he loves it, and I think it’s awesome!”
Loni is into “grandma” and the more traditional monikers. After adding that she thinks “it’s a sense of respect,” she went on to open up a discussion about another term: Auntie.
Ava DuVernay expressed her dislike for being labeled “Auntie” earlier this year because she doesn’t “feel that old.” Guest co-host Amanda Seales agrees — “it’s too early” for her to get that name. That’s why Jeannie goes by Cousin Jeannie!
For Loni, there’s an age limit on who’s permitted to do so. It’s acceptable in her eyes for kids 13 years old and younger to use the nickname, although she’s “Auntie all day” for Tamera’s kids, Aden and Ariah! They even lovingly dubbed her “Auntie Purple” because she once had purple hair!
Real fam, are you into the term “grandma” or would you choose another name?
