Model and Actor Godfrey Gao Dead at 35

Godfrey Gao has died at the age of 35.

Early Wednesday morning, the Taiwanese-Canadian model and actor died after collapsing on the set of “Chase Me,” a Zhejiang Television athletic game show which features obstacle-course races similar to the ones on “American Ninja Warrior.”

WWD reports the former basketball player died of cardiac arrest.

Wednesday morning, his management, JetStar Entertainment, posted a statement confirming the tragic news.

“In the early hours of Nov. 27, our beloved Godfrey collapsed while filming on set. Unfortunately, following three hours of medical rescue efforts, he left us. We are very shocked and saddened and even until now find it impossible to accept. Thank you media friends and every fan of Godfrey’s for their concern,” it read.

It continued, “His management and team were by his side and his family were urgently rushed to the location. Please respect Godfrey’s family in this time of sorrow and refrain from disturbing them. We will accompany Godfrey’s family to handle discreet funeral arrangements. Thank you, everyone.”

According to a separate statement from “Chase Me,” the “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” star fell to the ground while running. Though on-set medical staff tried to attend to him, he eventually succumbed to reported heart issues.

The people behind the show expressed their “incomparable pain and complete sorrow” over the incident.

In 2011, Gao made history when he was the first Asian model cast in a Louis Vuitton campaign.

He will be missed.
