Is It OK to NOT Go Home During the Holidays?

For some, the holiday season isn’t so jolly…

On Thursday’s episode of “The Real,” hosts Tamera Mowry-Housley, Jeannie Mai, Loni Love, and Adrienne Houghton discussed whether it’s acceptable for someone to not go home during these times.

Mai brought up the point that one might not want to deal with certain questions or conversations from nosy family members. Additionally, some might want to avoid that “weird uncle”!

On that note, Love says she often gets asked about her publicized relationship with actor James Welsh, and has to shut down pesky breakup rumors.

To identify gossipy relatives, Mai has a trick: She will tell different rumors to different loved ones and watches which ones circulate!

Despite this, Mai acknowledges that these quirky — though sometimes annoying — characteristics make her family bomb!

“You need those characters,” she added.

But if you truly don’t want to see your family during the holidays, give them a simple explanation why. Good excuses could be related to work, finances, or (sadly) past childhood traumas.

Regardless, Love says you should never feel bad about your decisions. In other words, do whatever makes you happy!
