Fans Defend Beyoncé After Perceived Joaquin Phoenix Golden Globes Shade

Beyhive to the rescue!

On Sunday at the Golden Globes, Joaquin Phoenix received a standing ovation as he walked to the stage to accept the honor for Best Actor in Motion Picture, Drama.

However, fans immediately noticed that a few stars did not stand up for the “Joker” leading man, including Beyoncé — who was nominated for Best Original Song for her track “Spirit” from “The Lion King.”

“Out of respect, she should’ve stood up. Wtf,” one social media user wrote on Twitter.

Another chimed in, writing, “You’re a joke for not standing up for Joaquin Phoenix. Understandable to make a statement. But that’s just poor sportsmanship for someone that actually deserved recognition."

After the “Flawless” singer received criticism, fans immediately jumped to her defense, and noted that she would have blocked the actor’s path to the stage.

“Let’s not create any mess here,” a Twitter commenter explained. “She most likely didnt stand because she would be in way when he walked by. She smiled and clapped.”

Others cited the singer’s gorgeous Schiaparelli haute couture dress, which appeared difficult to move around in.

Though they did not walk the red carpet, Beyoncé attended the ceremony with husband Jay-Z.
