R.I.P. Rocky “Soul Man” Johnson.
On Wednesday, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) reported that Dwayne Johnson’s father passed away. He was 75.
Rocky — a famed wrestler born Wayde Douglas Bowles — began his career in the mid-1960s, and was recruited by the World Wrestling Federation in 1982. He was later paired with Tony Atlas, and in 1983, the two — known as “The Soul Patrol” — became the first African-American world tag team champions in WWF (now WWE) history.
After retiring from the sport in 1991, he was inducted by his son into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008.
Prior to his acting career, Dwayne followed in his father’s footsteps and rose to fame under his ring name, “The Rock.”
In December 2016, the “Ballers” executive producer revealed he gifted his dad a car for Christmas.
“Bought my dad a Christmas gift and surprised him. He’s had a hard life. This one felt good,” the “Jumanji: The Next Level” actor wrote on social media.
He will be missed.
