North West’s name is no laughing matter!
In a recent YouTube video where sister Kylie Jenner does her makeup, Kim Kardashian revealed the origins of her 6-year-old daughter’s unique moniker.
“North took me, like, a week to name her,” the “Keeping Up with the Kardashian” star explained. “Not a week, but, like, four or five days. I actually got it from Jay Leno, who made that as a joke. And I was like, ‘No way, I would never name my daughter that.’ Like, I said that on his show. Everyone was coming up to me like, ‘It’s such a cool name. You should really think about it.’”
(In a “73 Questions” video released in April 2019, Kim previously said Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour “had some influence in naming North because once she heard that rumor, she asked me and said that name was ‘genius,’ so that was helpful to me.”)
During her March 2013 appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” the host asked Kardashian if she and now-husband Kanye West were thinking about the name “North.”
“There are so many rumors. That is not true,” she said, adding, “That is not one of the names on the list.”
In fact, Kardashian told Leno at the time they were considering “Easton.”
“It kind of goes with North,” she exclaimed. “I think that’s cute.”
In the makeup tutorial, Kim also dished that she came up with 2-year-old Chicago’s name, while Kanye thought of 4-year-old Saint’s.
“So, Saint I couldn’t think of anything either. And we got books and we were sitting in there,” Kim remarked. “It just came. Kanye came up with Saint. And then Chicago took me, like, two weeks."
When Kim gave props to Kylie with naming Psalm, the Kylie Cosmetics founder refused to take credit!
“Well, you thought of it. I vouched for it,” Jenner said.
Previously, a May 2019 People source said Psalm’s moniker is “a good reflection of where Kanye and Kim are spiritually.”
