Remember Rihanna fans: Patience is a virtue.
Thursday on Instagram Story, the “Work” singer confirmed she is, indeed, working on new music by posting a photo from her recording session with The Neptunes — a production duo comprising Pharrell and Chad Hugo.
“gang. back in da STU,” the Fenty Beauty creator captioned the pic.
Back in December 2018, the Barbados native — born Robyn Fenty — announced she would be dropping her ninth studio album the following year.
When an Instagram fan asked, “But when is the new album dropping Robyn?” she responded, “2019.”
Sadly, 2019 came and went WITHOUT a new LP from the Fenty designer.
The 31-year-old even made fun of the false release date by posting a hilarious video on December 22, 2019, with the caption, “update: me listening to R9 by myself and refusing to release it.”
Regardless of when “R9” will see the light of day, the artist teased the sound of her new project in an October 2019 interview with Vogue.
“I like to look at it as a reggae-inspired or reggae-infused album,” she said. “It’s not gonna be typical of what you know as reggae. But you’re going to feel the elements in all of the tracks.”
When asked why specifically reggae, Rihanna responded, “Reggae always feels right to me. It’s in my blood. It doesn’t matter how far or long removed I am from that culture, or my environment that I grew up in; it never leaves. It’s always the same high. Even though I’ve explored other genres of music, it was time to go back to something that I haven’t really homed in on completely for a body of work.”
Get ready, y’all!
