Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is keeping the arts alive!
Today, Monday, the New York modern dance company, founded in 1958 by choreographer and dancer Alvin Ailey, is celebrating the anniversary of its first performance with the launch of #AileyAllAccess – a free online streaming series featuring performances, dance classes, original short films, and other exclusive content.
As a special preview, dancer Hope Boykin will host a workshop at 3 p.m. ET where she will teach excerpts from “Revelations,” Ailey’s well-known 1960 performance.
Additionally, at 7 p.m. ET, artistic director Robert Battle will introduce a 2015 “Live from Lincoln Center” screening of “Revelations” where some of the dancers will provide commentary.
The screening will be available until April 2 at 7 p.m. ET.
A variety of digital content will also be posted on the Facebook and Instagram pages of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the Ailey Extension. Additionally, fans can follow Ailey II on Facebook and The Ailey School on Instagram.
Per a press release, the organization “will continue to find ways to build community, inspire with Ailey’s artistry, and celebrate the indomitable human spirit through dance” as they move forward amid these troubling times.
