Naya Rivera’s Son Josey, 4, in ‘Good Health’ After Actress Goes Missing

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department gives an update on 4-year-old Josey Dorsey after the boy’s mother, Naya Rivera, went missing Wednesday after boating on Lake Piru in Ventura, California.

“He’s in good health,” Captain Eric Buschow told reporters on Thursday about Josey’s condition. “The family is going through a very traumatic time right now.”

Per TMZ, Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies say Josey was found sleeping alone on a rented boat shortly before 5 p.m. According to NBC Los Angeles, Josey was wearing his life jacket, while an adult life jacket, believed to be the one provided to Naya, was still on the boat.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that Josey told deputies his mom had jumped in the water but did not come back up.

Buschow also told Us Weekly on Thursday, “The son said they were in the water swimming together. He came up and got back up on the boat, but she did not. He was found on the boat by a passerby. He was found fast asleep on the boat by himself.”

Us Weekly added that Naya’s family members then came to the lake and picked up Josey.

Per the Fillmore Police Department, officials immediately embarked on a search-and-rescue operation on Wednesday evening but were unable to find Naya. Their efforts were suspended due to nightfall.

While the search resumed early Thursday morning, TMZ reported at 8:32 a.m. PST that authorities say Naya is presumed dead, and that their search has shifted from a rescue to a recovery mission.

The outlet also says the “Glee” actress went missing in water with only 5 to 9 inches of visibility, and that it typically takes seven to 10 days for a body to rise to the surface.

On Thursday afternoon, TMZ reports that the Ventura County Sheriff says there are more than 80 people involved in the search, and are utilizing helicopters, boats, ATV vehicles, and ground personnel to locate Naya.

Josey is Naya’s son with ex-husband Ryan Dorsey. The couple married in July 2014 and finalized their divorce in June 2018.
