UPDATE! At a press conference on Monday, Ventura County Sheriff Bill Ayub told reporters, “We are confident the body we found is that of Naya Rivera."
Law enforcement sources say the body of Naya Rivera has been found at Lake Piru after the actress went missing last Wednesday.
Monday at 9:38 a.m. PST, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office tweeted that a body had been found at the Ventura, California, lake where the “Glee” star disappeared following a boating trip with her 4-year-old son Josey.
A body has been found at Lake Piru this morning. The recovery is in progress. There will be a news conference at 2 pm at the lake— Ventura Co. Sheriff (@VENTURASHERIFF) July 13, 2020
At 9:53 a.m. PST, law enforcement insiders confirmed to TMZ that the body is, in fact, Rivera's. The outlet reported her to be dead at the age of 33.
Last week, authorities said Josey was found sleeping alone on the boat shortly before 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
Captain Eric Buschow confirmed to Us Weekly on Thursday that Josey told officials he and his mom went swimming in the lake, but that Naya did not come back up.
Buschow also told reporters that Josey “is in good health” following the “traumatic” incident.
On Sunday, Robert Inglis of the Ventura County Sheriff's Office Search & Rescue Team told Us Weekly that Rivera took a picture of Josey and sent it to a family member prior to going missing. Inglis says the timestamp on the photo showed that it was taken 90 minutes to two hours before Josey was found on the boat alone.
“There was a picture sent to a family member that showed the boy on the boat by a cove,” Inglis told the outlet. “We found where that cove was.”
Inglis explained that officials used the location of the cove and the location of where the boat was found as starting points for their search.
Since last week, Josey has been reunited with his father Ryan Dorsey, who is Naya’s ex-husband.
Dorsey and Rivera married in July 2014 and finalized their divorce in June 2018.
Per People last week, the two parents agreed to "share joint physical custody" of their son just three months before Rivera’s disappearance.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Naya’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
