Bless our ears, Michelle Obama!
On Thursday, Variety reported that the former first lady will launch “The Michelle Obama Podcast” exclusively on Spotify on July 29.
“My hope is that this series can be a place to explore meaningful topics together and sort through so many of the questions we’re all trying to answer in our own lives,” the “Becoming” author said in a statement. “Perhaps most of all, I hope this podcast will help listeners open up new conversations — and hard conversations — with the people who matter most to them. That’s how we can build more understanding and empathy for one another.”
Available to free users and premium subscribers worldwide, the series will feature Obama’s conversations with friends and family, focusing on “the relationships that shape us, from siblings and close friends to partners, parents and mentors to our relationship with ourselves and our health.”
Guests will include Obama’s mother Marian Robinson and older brother Craig Robinson, as well Conan O’Brien, journalist Michele Norris, Dr. Sharon Malone, and Valerie Jarrett — a former adviser to President Obama during his time in office.
“We believe that audiences across the globe will be inspired by these most candid, most human and most personal conversations between First Lady Michelle Obama and her guests,” Spotify’s chief content and advertising business officer Dawn Ostroff said in a statement.
In June 2019, it was announced that Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company, Higher Ground Productions, inked a multiyear deal with Spotify to develop, produce, and host different podcasts.
Higher Ground also has a multiyear pact with Netflix to produce original scripted, unscripted, and documentary series and films.
