Royana Black, an actress who played the lead role in the 1988 CBS sitcom “Raising Miranda,” has passed away at 47.
Per her obituary, Black died from acute myeloid leukemia (AML) on July 14, 2020, in Los Angeles.
“Royana had an infectious smile and laugh which could light even the darkest of days,” her family wrote. “She was a beautiful person inside and out. She was truly an angel on earth.”
In addition to appearing in television shows such as “Medium” and “The Cosby Show,” Black played the role of Laurie in the Broadway adaptation of Neil Simon’s “Brighton Beach Memoirs.”
Her family said she also had her own theater company in L.A. and worked as an administrative assistant for investment firm Houlihan Lokey.
Earlier this month, a GoFundMe was set up to help Black’s husband of 11 years, John “J.P.” Hubbell, with expenses and financial difficulties that arose from Royana’s passing. As of this writing, the page has raised over $54,000.
Black’s family also requests that any donations to be sent to the Leukemia Fund in her memory.
In addition to her husband, Royana is survived by her mother Gloria and brother Robert.
She will be missed.
