Demi Lovato and her ex-fiancé Max Ehrich appear to disagree on how both parties knew they were no longer together.
Over the weekend, just days after People reported that the two had broken up after a two-month-long engagement, the “Young and the Restless” actor claimed he found out about the split from a “tabloid.”
“Imagine finding out to [sic] the status of your relationship through a tabloid,” he shared Saturday on Instagram Story.
Later that day, a source told “E! News” that “he is lying.”
“Demi did tell him beforehand,” the insider continued, adding that Ehrich is “just trying to stay relevant. Her family thinks he is crazy and is so relieved she has taken this step.”
That next day, Ehrich doubled down on his claim, explaining on IG Story, “I was on the set of my new movie, “Southern Gospel,” with crew and cast members right next to me who literally watched me open my phone where I then opened a tabloid.”
“This is the God’s honest truth of how I found out about the ending of the engagement, and have people from my film who saw the whole thing go down and helped me get back into character to continue my job,” he said Sunday on IG Story.
Later that night, TMZ reported that the actor posted and deleted another message on IG Story, claiming that he and Lovato never really broke up.
“Up to this moment we haven’t spoken over the phone... we haven't even officially ended anything to each other,” he reportedly said.
Ehrich also reportedly professed his love for Lovato by writing, “If you’re reading this... I love you always... unconditionally... no matter what,” adding, “I’m here in real time with y’all. I love Demetria and just want her to be healthy and safe.”
On Monday, Ehrich wrote yet another message, appearing to imply that the drama between him and his former fiancée is over.
“One chapter finally closed this a.m. And now I turn the page,” he wrote. “Focused on wellness, love, God, my family, friends, and my art. Good vibes only.”
Last Thursday, a source announced the breakup news to People, saying in a statement, “It was a tough decision, but Demi and Max have decided to go their separate ways to focus on their respective careers. They have respect and love for one another and will always cherish the time they spent together.”
Lovato also posted a picture of herself on IG Story without her engagement ring while wearing a T-shirt that read, “Dogs Over People.”
That day, multiple sources told “E! News” the potential reasons behind their split.
One insider said their relationship “started going downhill” weeks before Ehrich started filming “Southern Gospel” in Georgia and that “they were arguing a lot and Demi didn’t want him to go without her.”
The source also said the singer realized “she didn’t know who Max truly was and didn’t think he had good intentions.”
“There were many red flags she was ignoring and trying to turn a blind eye to,” the insider continued.
A second source said, “She doesn’t trust him and thinks he’s sketchy,” adding that Lovato “feels he proposed to get attention.”
