Taraji P. Henson Confirms Split from Fiancé Kelvin Hayden

Taraji P. Henson confirms she is no longer engaged to Kelvin Hayden.

During a Monday interview with Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club,” the “Empire” star announced the news while discussing the benefits of therapy.

“I haven’t said it yet, but it didn’t work out. You know what I mean? I tried, I said, ‘Let’s do the therapy thing,’ but if you’re both not on the same page with that, then you feel like you’re taking it on yourself and that’s not a fair position for anybody to play in a relationship,” the actress said.

“My happiness is not his responsibility and his is not mine. We have to first learn how to make ourselves happy to make each other happy. So when one person is taking on the weight of the entire relationship, it’s never going to work,” she continued.

“You have to show up. Yes, you want to be understanding, but you can’t lose yourself in that understanding. You have to still stand up for yourself and be there for yourself, but it’s hard to do if the other person isn’t doing that either.”

Fans began to speculate about their split after the former NFL player was MIA from her 50th birthday party pics posted last month.

As seen on Instagram Story, Henson celebrated her milestone on a yacht with pals including Angie Martinez and Mary J. Blige.

Henson announced her engagement to Hayden in May 2018 by posting a picture of her diamond ring.

“I said yes y’all!!!” she wrote at the time.

Henson and Hayden postponed their nuptials from April to June because of family plans and her hectic work schedule, and then moved it again due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We have to see what this will be like at the other end,” Henson told “Extra” host Billy Bush in late March.

Henson shares son Marcell with high-school sweetheart William LaMarr Johnson, who was sadly murdered in 2003.
