Diplo has issued a statement after 19-year-old TikTok star Quenlin Blackwell said she lives with him.
Sunday on Twitter, the 41-year-old DJ clarified that the social media personality doesn’t live with him but rather rents out one of his properties.
“OK so I rent one of my properties to @quenblackwell. And yes I use the studio that is in that building,” he explained. “Her social media is sarcastic and chaotic and I can see you can get a twisted idea but there is nothing but a friendship between us.”
As a landlord I don't really consider age or race as a qualification. U just gotta pay security deposit. And don't poke holes in the walls or ruin my carpet— Thomas Wesley (@diplo) October 26, 2020
When a fan asked why he would befriend someone 22 years his junior, he responded:
The controversy started last week when Blackwell posted a TikTok that said she lives with the musician in Los Angeles, and that he “supports my endeavors.”
After fans questioned her living arrangements, Blackwell began a series, titled “Living With Diplo,” where she said he keeps a Peloton bike in her room.
Sunday night, Blackwell also set the record straight about her friendship with Diplo, saying she is “not being groomed.”
“I’m an adult. I’m not being groomed. Platonic relationships exist. I’ve been living here for over a year… I’d rather break both of my legs and be forced to walk than pursue Diplo romantically and he’d rather choke,” she wrote.
While adding that Diplo is “[barely] in LA” and that her “parents trust him,” Blackwell said, “Diplo and his team are my mentors… and they are my safety net.”
Back in May, Diplo confirmed he welcomed his third son, Pace, with model and former Miss Universe contestant Jevon King.
He also shares sons Lazer and Lockett with ex-girlfriend Kathryn Lockhart.
