Jeannie bids farewell to “Dancing with the Stars” after she underwent emergency surgery for a parapharyngeal deep-neck abscess.
In a video that aired Monday night on the dancing show, Jeannie opened up about her life-threatening illness, which forced her and partner Brandon Armstrong to withdraw from the competition.
“I’m absolutely devastated that my journey on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ has to end this way,” Jeannie said while on the verge of tears.
"I found out that I have a throat abscess, where my tonsils and my throat had gotten so infected that it started permeating to the rest of the areas behind my neck and my ears that I had to get emergency surgery, which is why I'm here now."
After the procedure, Jeannie — with fiancé Jeezy by her side — was told by her doctor that “everything went great” and that she was “out of danger.”
However, the doctor added, “You had waited one more day, your throat would have closed up.”
Despite her exit, Jeannie is “just so thankful I had the experience on ‘Dancing with the Stars.’”
“It was hands-down one of the best journeys of my life, so thank you so much and I love you guys," she added.
Later in the episode, “DWTS” host Tyra Banks got emotional while discussing Jeannie’s health scare.
"Jeannie, we are glad that everything went well and that you are on your way to a speedy recovery," Banks said. "As you see, I'm emotional, we're all emotional in here. We know that this means so much to you."
"I remember after the show, seeing you in the hallway, and just your love and passion for this and Brandon's love and passion for this," Banks continued. "Just know you are still apart of this family 'til the final episode of this season."
That same day, Jeannie posted a photo from the hospital, and wrote in the caption that she “made it safely out of my emergency surgery.”
“I will be forever grateful to Dr. Nasseri who identified my potentially life-threatening condition,” she wrote. “What simply started as a sore throat had unbeknownst to me become a dangerous infection that already closed at least 60% of my airway and resulted in a throat abscess that spread in a matter of 3 days.”

Also on IG, our Loni revealed that Jeannie — who is resting and recovering from her surgery — “texted [her] with jokes.”
“I told her that in true fashion she gets a medical condition I can’t pronounce,” Loni joked, adding, “She thanks all of you for the positive vibes and prayers... keep recovering and getting well, my dear.”
