Prince Akeem Joffer is back, Real Fam!
On Friday, Variety reported that the highly anticipated sequel to 1988’s “Coming to America” — titled “Coming 2 America” — will be released March 5, 2021, on Amazon Prime Video.
In the new film, directed by Craig Brewer, Eddie Murphy reprises his role of Akeem Joffer, who is set to become king of Zamunda. However, he soon discovers that he has a son in America, a street-savvy Queens native named Lavelle (Jermaine Fowler).
While honoring his father’s (James Earl Jones) dying wish to groom this son as the crown prince, Akeem and confidante Semmi (Arsenio Hall) embark on a journey back to America!
The sequel will feature original cast members including Shari Headley, John Amos, Louie Anderson, and our very own Garcelle Beauvais as Rose!
The new cast also includes Wesley Snipes, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, Bella Murphy, Rotimi, KiKi Layne, Nomzamo Mbatha, and Teyana Taylor.
“‘Coming to America’ was a cultural phenomenon that is one of the most loved and celebrated comedies of all time,” Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, said in a statement.
“Thanks to Eddie Murphy’s comedic genius along with the brilliant filmmakers, writers and fabulous cast, we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate this new adventure. We know audiences around the world will fall in love with this hilarious, joyful movie that will surely become a timeless favorite.”
