Taraji P. Henson is speaking out after she announced she was no longer engaged to fiancé Kelvin Hayden.
While speaking to “Entertainment Tonight” before hosting Sunday’s American Music Awards, the “Empire” star told the outlet, “I am much better, let’s put it that way.”
Last month during a sit-down with Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club,” the actress confirmed she was no longer with the former NFL player after announcing their engagement in May 2018.
“I haven’t said it yet, but it didn’t work out. You know what I mean? I tried, I said, ‘Let’s do the therapy thing,’ but if you’re both not on the same page with that, then you feel like you’re taking it on yourself and that’s not a fair position for anybody to play in a relationship,” she said at the time.
In her interview with “ET,” Henson reflected on turning 50 in September, and how her outlook on life has changed.
“I felt myself slipping and so I was like, ‘You know what I am not going to do is let 50 happen to me,” she said. “I am going to get control of this mentally and not be like, ‘You are getting old, don’t nobody care, you ain’t working,’ Well, duh, no one is working, it is COVID. So I felt that coming.”
She also spoke about hosting the AMAs, and how the gig came to be.
“I got called to present at the Billboards and then my agent goes, ‘Oh by the way, they want to know if you want to host the AMAs and I am like, ‘What? Hell yeah, I want to get off this sofa and be glamorous and pretty,’” she recalled.
“I studied musical theater, so any time I get to be on a live theater stage, that’s how I look at it. I know it is an award show for music, but it is still a chance for me to show my different talents.”
Needless to say, our girl Taraji KILLED IT as emcee, and definitely brought the fashion!
