A San Antonio hip-hop artist who is believed to be the cousin of Beyoncé was allegedly shot to death in his home.

Per the San Antonio Express-News, Martell DeRouen, known by his stage name Kardone, was found dead by police in his apartment on Tuesday. The outlet reports that police were called to the residence after a friend had not heard from DeRouen for several days.

A preliminary report says DeRouen died of an apparent gunshot wound.

According to CBS Austin, 21-year-old Sasha Skare — who was allegedly involved in a deadly 2019 North Austin shooting — is a suspect in DeRouen’s killing.

As of this writing, a warrant is out for her arrest and she is currently at large.

After news of DeRouen’s death broke, friend Brian Mitchell, owner of Fyngermade Studio, remembered the rapper as “quiet” and “subtle.”

“Kardone was one of those ones who rose and shine bright, brighter than, you know, some of those that was in the room with him,” Mitchell told KSAT.

While friends have identified DeRouen as Beyoncé’s relative, Mitchell says this never went to DeRouen’s head.

“That’s not even something he would even mention to people. We’d just have to put in his bios because it’s just, it’s worthy to put it in there, but he doesn’t like stuff like that,” Mitchell recalled.

A rep for Beyoncé did not respond to People’s request for comment.

Anyone with information on Skare’s whereabouts is urged to call SAPD’s homicide unit at 210-207-7635.

Our condolences go out to Martell’s family and loved ones for their loss.
