Piers Morgan is no longer a host on “Good Morning Britain” after he suggested Meghan Markle lied about suffering suicidal thoughts in her interview with Oprah Winfrey.
On Tuesday, the British network ITV released a statement announcing that the controversial journalist had exited his role as a presenter on the morning program.
"Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave ‘Good Morning Britain.’ ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add,” the statement read.
On Monday, Morgan made headlines when he questioned whether Markle was being truthful when she said in her interview that she "didn't want to be alive anymore" during a point in time with the royal family.
After "GMB" played a clip of Markle’s interview, Morgan said he didn't "believe a word" she said, adding, "I wouldn't believe her if she read me the weather report, and the fact that she's fired up this onslaught against our royal family I think is contemptible.”
He later walked back on his comments the next day, saying on-air, “When we talked about this yesterday, I said, as an all-encompassing thing, 'I don't believe what Meghan Markle is saying generally in this interview.' And I still have serious concerns about the veracity of a lot of what she said.”
"But let me just state for the record about my position on mental illness and on suicide. Mental illness and suicide — these are clearly extremely serious things. They should be taken extremely seriously. And if somebody is feeling that way, they should get the treatment and the help that they need every time."
However, co-presenter Alex Beresford pressed Morgan on his controversial remarks, resulting in Morgan storming off the set.
“I understand that you [Morgan] don't like Meghan Markle, you've made it so clear a number of times on this program," Beresford said. "And I understand that you've got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle, or had one and she cut you off.”
"Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don't think she has, but yet you continue to trash her.”
As Morgan walked off, he said, "Okay, I'm done with this, sorry, no, sorry... see you later, sorry, can't do this."

However, he later returned to the set and continued the discussion.
Morgan became a co-host on the British morning show in 2015.
