Both Beyoncé and her 9-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter made history at the 2021 Grammy Awards.
On Sunday night, the mother-daughter duo, along with fellow musicians Saint Jhn and Wizkid, took home the award for Best Music Video for their song “Brown Skin Girl” from the 2019 album “The Lion King: The Gift.”
This makes Blue the second-youngest artist to win a Grammy, behind Leah Peasall — who, at just 8 years old, won a 2001 Best Album of the Year Grammy for her work on the “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” soundtrack.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Blue has been honored with a prestigious award.
In November 2019, the talented girl took home the Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award at the BET Soul Train Awards for co-writing “Brown Skin Girl.”
Months later in February 2020, she and her “Brown Skin Girl” co-writers won for Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration at the 51st annual NAACP Image Awards.
Not to be outdone, mom Beyoncé also shattered records Sunday night at the ceremony.
The superstar took home an additional three Grammys that night, including Best R&B Performance for her song “Black Parade,” as well as Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for her collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, “Savage (Remix).”
After taking home her 28th win, Bey became the Grammys’ most-decorated female artist.
She is also tied with Quincy Jones for the second-most Grammy wins, as conductor Georg Stolti currently holds the record with 31 Grammys.
While accepting the award for Best R&B Performance, Beyoncé said she was “honored” and “so excited.”
“Thank you, guys. As an artist, I believe it’s my job and all of our jobs to reflect the times,” she said onstage. “I wanted to uplift and encourage all of the Black kings and queens who inspire me and inspire the whole world... I can’t believe this happened. It’s such a magical night.”
Bey also congratulated her eldest for her impressive win!
“I know my daughter is watching, two daughters and my son are watching,” she said, also giving a shout-out to her 3-year-old twins with husband Jay-Z, Sir and Rumi. “Blue, congratulations. You won a Grammy tonight. I’m so proud. I love you so much, my rock.”
The Knowles-Carter family is unstoppable!
