Keyshawn Johnson reveals that his eldest daughter Maia has passed away at age 25.
Monday on Instagram, the former NFL wide receiver posted a note revealing the devastating news.
“It is with incredible sadness that I have to share the news about the passing of my beautiful Daughter Maia. Maia, as my first born child, has been the joy of my, and her Mother Shikiri’s, life.”
He continued, “She came into our lives just as we were both coming of age as adults and has been a constant beloved presence for both of us. We are heartbroken and devastated by her loss.”
“Shikiri, Maia’s siblings, our family and me appreciate your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time,” he added.
As of this writing, Maia’s cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.
After Johnson’s heartbreaking announcement went viral, ESPN — where Johnson works as an analyst — issued a statement offering their condolences to Maia’s family and loved ones.

Per Yahoo Sports, Johnson shared Maia with his ex-wife, Shikiri Hightower. The couple was married from 1998 to 2002 and also have a son, Keyshawn Johnson Jr.
In 2017, Hightower posted a carousel of images honoring Maia on her 22nd birthday.
Johnson also shares three younger children — London, Vance, and Shyla — with his current wife, Jennifer Conrad.
R.I.P. Maia. You will be missed.
