Ayanna Williams, who is recognized by Guinness World Records as the woman with the world’s longest fingernails, is parting ways with her signature look.
In a video posted Tuesday, Williams got her nails trimmed for the first time in 29 years.
As seen in the clip, Dr. Allison Readinger of Trinity Vista Dermatology in Forth Worth, Texas, used an electric rotary tool to cut the lengthy nails.
“I’ve been growing my nails for a few decades now. I’m so, so ready for a new life. I’m know I’m going to miss them, but it’s just about that time — it’s time for them to go,” Williams said.
Williams also noted that her long fingernails prevented her from doing everyday activities, such as washing the dishes or putting sheets on her bed.
“With my movements I have to be very, very careful. So usually in my mind I’m already preparing for the next step that I have to do to make sure that I don’t hurt myself with my nails — or break them. I’m excited about cutting my nails because I’m looking forward to new beginnings.”
In 2017, Williams was first officially recognized when her nails measured 576.4 cm (18 ft., 10.9 in.). Per Guinness World Records, her nails required over two bottles of nail polish and 20 hours for a manicure.
Before the procedure, Dr. Readinger measured Williams’ nails one last time and it turns out Ayanna broke her own record for the longest fingernails on a pair of female hands.
Prior to being cut, Williams’ nails measured 733.55 cm (24 ft., 0.7 in.).
Although they are no longer on her body, Williams’ nails will be preserved and on display at the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum in Orlando, Florida.
“It’s gonna be awesome. It’s going to be a like a wax of myself even though it’s just my nails. I can’t wait to see that, for real. I’m going to be grinning from ear to ear. Just really think about it, it’s amazing.”
Even with Williams’ new milestone, the record for the longest fingernails on a pair of hands ever (female) still stands with Lee Redmond, whose nails measured 8.65 m (28 ft., 4.5 in.). Per TMZ, Redmond reportedly broke her nails in a car accident in 2009.
