Jennifer Lopez Couldn’t ‘Trust’ Alex Rodriguez Before Split, Says Source

A new report is giving insight into Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez’s broken engagement.

On Wednesday, multiple sources told People that Lopez was the one who broke things off with Rodriguez — prompting the couple to release a joint statement about their split last Thursday.

“She insisted on it. There are too many issues that are unresolved,” said a supposed friend of Lopez.

Ultimately, the insiders say Lopez could no longer fully “trust” Rodriguez, who last month flew to the Dominican Republic, where she filmed her upcoming movie “Shotgun Wedding.”

“She has been pretty miserable,” the source said, “and didn’t think it was in her best interests to stay with Alex.”

However, insiders made it clear that infidelity was NOT the cause of their breakup.

“Whether or not he has cheated doesn’t matter,” a music source said. “She won’t tolerate the fear of it in the air between them.”

Another insider said the two — who got engaged in the Bahamas in March 2019 after two years of dating — “both liked spending more time together as a family, but it was difficult to keep that special spark when they saw each other every day.”

Last week, the couple announced their breakup in a statement to “Today.”

“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children,” it read.

“Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”

Prior to this, the two released a statement to People in March, saying, “We are working through some things.”

A source also clarified to the magazine, “They never officially broke up and talked about it but are still together. They hit a rough patch. But were not broken up.”

Although there were rumors that Rodriguez had cheated on Lopez with “Southern Charm” star Madison LeCroy after LeCroy admitted to communicating with a former MLB player on Instagram, the insider told People that this speculation “had no bearing on the rough patch at all.”

Additionally, a source told the Post in early February that Rodriguez and LeCroy “didn’t hook up,” as he “doesn’t know” her.

Last week, an insider told TMZ that Lopez still has her $1.8 million engagement ring, and there has been no discussion of who gets it after the split.
