Tahj Mowry Confirms ‘Smart Guy’ Reboot Is in the Works!

Tahj Mowry may be heading back to Piedmont High very soon!
During a recent interview with “KTLA 5 Morning News,” the actor revealed that he is working on a reboot of “Smart Guy” — a sitcom that ran in the late ’90s where he played a 10-year-old child prodigy who transfers to a high school.
“We’re working really hard on it,” the 35-year-old said. “Fans just [we] gotta be patient — good things take time. We do have a possible home for it. We have a writer for it, so I’ve been working hard all quarantine — all these Zoom meetings and talking to the bigwigs. So, we’re gonna get it done.”
Though he was only 9 years old when he landed the role of T.J. Henderson, the younger brother of Tia and Tamera Mowry said he still “[remembers] a lot of it.”
“I remember being on set, you know, being tutored. I remember the effect that it did have on people then, but even more so now, and it’s cool to look back.”

Mowry previously discussed the reboot in a May interview with “Entertainment Tonight,” saying, “There’s been lots of Zoom meetings and talks about this, so we do have the ball rolling on it. It’s just a matter of time and timing, but we do have the possible home for it.”
He added, “We do have a writer, and I feel like I came up with a really fresh take on how we can bring that back with the whole cast and something that is fresh and new. But also something that the diehard fans will still get that nostalgic aspect of it as well.”
While Mowry says in a perfect world “you will see the whole cast,” including John Marshall Jones, Jason Weaver, Essence Atkins, and Omar Gooding, “we’re not at that stage yet where we’re checking everyone’s schedule.”
“We’re still in the pre-phases. So that will come. But if all goes according to plan, everyone will be in it.”
“Smart Guy” aired on the WB for three seasons from March 26, 1997, to May 16, 1999.
