Tiffany Haddish to Play Florence Griffith Joyner in New Movie!

The Florence Griffith Joyner biopic is off to the races!
On Thursday, Variety reported that Tiffany Haddish will star in and produce a film about the legendary track and field Olympian, known affectionately by fans as “Flo-Jo.”
“I am looking forward to telling Flo-Jo’s story the way it should be told,” the “Girls Trip” star said in a statement. “My goal with this film is making sure that younger generations know my ‘she-ro’ Flo-Jo, the fastest woman in the world to this day, existed.”
In addition to serving as a producer and creative consultant on the project, Flo-Jo’s widower and former coach, Al Joyner, has already begun training Haddish for the role.
“I am so elated to team up with game1 and Tiffany Haddish on this project,” Al said. “Working with Tiffany has been a great pleasure — she is incredibly dedicated, focused, and committed to portraying the spirit of Florence accurately, whose legacy of making a difference in the world will live on for generations to come. I hope that this film touches all who see it and inspires people to BE the change the world so desperately needs right now!”
Florence made her Olympic debut in 1984, winning a silver medal in the 200-meter distance.
Four years later at the 1988 Games, the athlete set a new world record in the 100-meter sprint and overall, took home the gold medal in the 100 m, 200 m, and 4x100 m races.
The famed athlete was also known for her extravagant personality and style, in which she famously wore one-legged catsuits.
Per the International Olympic Committee, many of the records that Florence set in the 1988 Olympics have yet to be broken.
After retiring from the sport in February 1989, Florence sadly passed from an epileptic seizure in 1998 at the age of 38.
After news of Florence’s biopic went viral, Tiffany wrote on her Twitter page, “My Heart is so full Right now! I can't even explain how hard I am going to work to honor Her Legacy!"
