Digital Underground’s Shock G Cause of Death Revealed

Shock G’s cause of death has been revealed.
On Thursday, a representative from the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner told TMZ that the iconic Digital Underground group member passed away in April from an accidental overdose of fentanyl, ethanol, and methamphetamine.
In late April, the legendary rapper’s father told the outlet that his son was found deceased in a Tampa hotel room. At the time, TMZ reported that there were no signs of trauma.
Reportedly, a manager at the hotel became concerned after the 57-year-old MC missed his checkout time.
The Medical Examiner lists Shock G’s time of death as 2:20 p.m. EST.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, the musician, whose real name is Gregory Edward Jacobs, eventually relocated to Oakland, where he formed Digital Underground with Chopmaster J and the late Kenneth Waters, aka Kenny-K.
In 1990, the group released their now-famous single “The Humpty Dance” which features Shock G’s alter ego Humpty Hump.
Aside from Digital Underground, Shock G has produced songs for Tupac Shakur, Dr. Dre, Prince, and KRS-One.
On May 1, Shock G was laid to rest at a funeral held at the Allen Temple A.M.E. Church in Tampa, Florida.
“I’ve always felt so much love from everyone in [Digital Underground] and I know that’s an extension of him,” his brother, Kent Racker, said during the service.
“I’ve always felt so much love from everybody that he touched and no story is too small or too long and I would love to hear everyone, any story you have about him, they’re always about love… as his brother, it’s been a charmed life being a brother of Shock G. You think about what he’s done for friends, I was his brother. I’m going to miss him dearly.”
In addition to his brother, Shock G is survived by his mother, Shirley Kraft; father, Edward Racker; and sister, Elizabeth Racker.
