‘Gone Girl’ Star Lisa Banes Passes Away at 65 After Hit-and-Run Scooter Accident

Lisa Banes, an actress known for roles in films such as “Gone Girl” and “Cocktail,” has passed away after being struck in a hit-and-run scooter accident.
On Tuesday, TMZ confirmed that Banes died Monday after spending more than a week in a New York hospital in critical condition.
In a statement obtained by outlets including ABC7, Banes’ wife Kathryn Kranhold said, “I am brokenhearted to share that Lisa, my beautiful wife and my love, passed away last night.”
Kranhold further explained, “Lisa has remained unconscious since being the victim of a hit and run near Lincoln Center on June 4th. She suffered a traumatic brain injury. Lisa’s brother, Evan Sinclair, and sister-in-law, Hallie Atkinson, and I were by her side for the last 10 days, as well as some dear and loving friends.”
Kranhold concluded her message by thanking those who have supported her and her family during this difficult time.
“We appreciate the love, support and prayers from all of you across the country. Lisa was listening. We want to express our everlasting gratitude to the medical staff at Mount Sinai Morningside for their expertise and empathy. We look forward to celebrating Lisa, her life and work, in New York City in the fall."
As reported by TMZ last week, law enforcement sources say Banes was struck while passing through a crosswalk. Insiders say Banes had the right of way when someone on an electric scooter or a motorcycle, reportedly described as red and black, allegedly blew past a red light and slammed into her.
Per reports, the suspect allegedly ran without stopping to help or call the police.
Banes’ representative David Williams added to ABC7 that Banes was on her way to visit the Juilliard School, her alma mater.
“We are heartsick over Lisa’s tragic and senseless passing,” Williams said in a statement. “She was a woman of great spirit, kindness and generosity and dedicated to her work, whether on stage or in front of a camera and even more so to her wife, family and friends. We were blessed to have had her in our lives.”
In addition to her work in film and TV, Banes was a celebrated stage actress who was nominated for a 1984 Drama Desk Award for her role in “Isn’t it Romantic?” and won a 1981 Theatre World Award for her performance in an off-Broadway production of “Look Back in Anger.”
Our condolences go out to Lisa’s family and loved ones for their loss.
