Man Allegedly Sets Fires at Multiple Las Vegas Walmarts

A man has been arrested for allegedly setting fires at two different Walmart locations in Nevada.
On Tuesday, the Las Vegas Sun reported that Brian Ray Miller was arrested on three counts of first-degree arson in connection with a series of fires at Las Vegas-area Walmart stores.
Per KLAS, Miller is being accused of starting fires April 13 at 5198 Boulder Highway, April 17 at 6005 S. Eastern Ave., and July 14 again at the Boulder Highway location.
According to Clark County Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Warren Whitney, “In each incident, a fire was set in the paper goods aisle, causing a large fire that activated each of the store’s sprinkler systems.”
“The fire suppression systems functioned as designed and kept the fires at bay until Clark County Fire Department crews could arrive and put the fire(s) out. The fire and water damage has been estimated to be in excess of $100,000 in each incident,” Whitney continued.
With regard to the July 14 incident, KTNV reports that Clark County Fire department received multiple calls of a fire at about 4:36 p.m.
Seven engines, two trucks, two rescues, and two battalion chiefs were dispatched to the scene.
Though the CCFD initially reported that a person was in custody prior to fire units arriving, they later clarified that the person had gotten away.
Officials say the store's fire sprinkler system was activated and that there were no reported injuries.
Per KLAS, police later found Miller near a loading dock in the Eastside Cannery Casino-Hotel’s parking lot. They say he had a knife and was yelling at officers to shoot him. Fortunately, officials de-escalated the situation and took him into custody.
8 News Now Las Vegas also posted surveillance footage from one of the incidents where fire can be seen spreading near the paper goods section. It is unclear which Walmart is featured in this video.
