This week, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was sentenced to 270 months, or 22.5 years, in prison for murdering unarmed Black man George Floyd on May 25, 2020. Though Floyd’s family suffered a tragic loss, and while Chauvin was not given the maximum sentence, we hope Hennepin County Judge Peter Cahill’s ruling brings Floyd’s loved ones some semblance of peace and justice.
