Karrueche Tran Becomes First AAPI Lead Actress to Win an Emmy!

Karrueche Tran has just made history!
Sunday night at the 2021 Daytime Emmy Awards — a ceremony hosted by our very own Loni Love that specifically honored those in the fiction and lifestyle categories — the actress took home the award for Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actress in a Daytime Fiction Program for her role in “The Bay.”
That night, Tran, who is of African American and Asian descent, became the first AAPI lead actress to win an Emmy at either the Daytime or Primetime ceremonies.
“I’m so thankful and so blessed and so grateful,” Tran said in her emotional acceptance speech. “I have to thank my ‘The Bay’ family who have believed in me since day one when nobody did at all.
“And here we are, I just won an Emmy,” she added.
After Tran’s win was announced, both she and Loni cried tears of joy!

Later that night on Instagram Story, Tran reflected on her win, writing, “I won a ------- EMMY you guys . . . I just . . . I can’t even think straight right now omgggg.”
Previously, Tran won two Outstanding Digital Daytime Drama Series Emmys for producing “The Bay.”
Of course, Tran wasn’t the only star who made history Sunday night!
Per the Daytime Emmys, Jodi Long, who plays Mrs. Basil E on Netflix’s “Dash & Lily,” became the first Asian American actress to win an Emmy when she took home the award for Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Daytime Fiction Program.
