Louisiana Man Charged After Allegedly Lying About Being Hit by Tesla

A Louisiana man was arrested and charged after video allegedly shows him lying about being hit by a Tesla.
Per the Slidell Police Department, on Friday, September 3, at around 4 p.m., authorities responded to the 1400 block of Fremaux Avenue after a man identified as 47-year-old Arthur Bates Jr. called 911 saying he was injured after being struck by a vehicle.
At the scene, Bates alleged to cops that the Tesla backed into him, causing him to fall to the pavement, and that the driver fled the scene. Bates also complained of back, leg, and neck injuries, prompting an ambulance and a fire truck to be dispatched to the location.
When officials met up with the unidentified driver of the Tesla, the driver claimed Bates intentionally jumped behind his vehicle.
Fortunately, the driver’s Tesla recorded the incident, and after police reviewed the footage, they determined that Bates allegedly staged the entire event.
Police also say that Bates allegedly admitted to lying, which resulted in his arrest for false swearing with the intent to cause an emergency response.
In the video later released by the police department, Bates appears to jump behind the vehicle before falling to the ground.
The driver then exits the vehicle to speak with Bates. After a few seconds, the driver goes out of frame while Bates remains on the ground. Once back in his car, the driver reverses around Bates before driving away.
As of this writing, it is unclear if Bates is in jail, has an attorney, or has entered a plea.
